I have had high blood pressure in the past even though I'm too young for that (I'm 25). I missed a pill yesterday and had to take 2 this morning and have been feeling a little dizzy and I am wondering if it could be my blood pressure or something else?Birth control pills and blood pressure?
High blood pressure rarely causes symptoms unless it is markedly elevated above normal. Dizziness is a common symptom for many things and is one of the more difficult symptoms for doctors to figure out. Just taking 2 contraceptive pills can sometimes cause nausea and dizziness.
More important for you is high blood pressure. If you have high blood pressure at 25 it is important to treat it. This is especially true if you are taking oral contraceptives as both are risk factors for stroke. Oral contraceptives are contraindicated in women over 40 who smoke due to the high risk of stroke. Risk factors for stroke include high blood pressure, obesity, smoking, family history, high cholesterol and heart disease. If you have 2 of these at 25 you need to discuss your contraceptive use with your doctor to determine if their may be a safer method.
