Oil pressure keeps changing on electronic control panel : Park Ave?

Hi Folks

I have a Buick Park Ave 2000

Till now all was well. just 2 hrs ago , I keep getting beeps every 5 mins for just 2 secs ( during that time , there is a red 'oil light ' on ) . I looked at the Pressure panel ( this has an electronic control panel ) and the pressure keeps changing drastically from 0 PSI to 129 PSI, as I drive the car. Is it the sensor? If the pressure is actually changing so fast , HOW would I know this while driving..e.g. car does not pick up ..I get a bad smell or something else.

if there are no driveability concerns, ie poor running or stalling, then I'd say it sounds like a bad connection at the oil pressure sensor, or the sensor itself may not be working. this is a way to check: disconnect the wire connector at the sensor, with the ignition on the oil pressure should be at one end of the gauge, usually its high, if it holds steady at one end you'll need to jump the signal and ground wires (hopefully this is one with only 2 wires. if not you'll have to do some research) when these wires are jumped the gauge should drop the other way (low). some times though i find these vehicles have bad dash clusters, which is expensive sorry to say.

i hope this helps
