How do you control your blood pressure when you have a customer/client yelling at you?

We've all had these situations where someone at our job yells and yells and yells. How do you control your blood pressure during those times? I can maintain my composure perfectly fine... I just hate that I have a physical response with my blood pressure and my hands shaking. Any tips would be great. :)How do you control your blood pressure when you have a customer/client yelling at you?
I've had customers yell at me so bad I had to excuse myself off to the bathroom so I wouldn't start blubbering like a little child. (And I don't easily get to that point). If you are finding that people are making you feel like that, or that you are cringing when they say ';excuse me'; in anticipation of a long, mean complaint, you might want to think about finding a new place of employment. Nobody- including you- deserves to be treated like a second class citizen. Of course you are right, we are all in these situations sometimes, and you very well can't just run away from it.





Here is a few things that have helped me: I take a deep, long, steady breath. I keep doing that. Sometimes chewing gum helps me keep my cool. (although one lady once called me an idiot for chewing gum while I was talking). I try to show respect for the angry person. It is easier to do this if you don't call it respect. I just try to give them the same little Curtice's I would give my elders or superiors. Yes ma'am, I'm listening. I asl questions about their problem to make sure I understand why they are angry, and I let them talk. Never say ';calm down';. And never be sarcastic. Identify the problem.





Never directly blame the customer or client. You are trying to help them, this would only make them angrier. Sometimes I used to say ';';I am so sorry, but because it was written in the contract when you were here before, my hands are tied. However, we could maybe explore another possible solution that would satisfy you, I can see from what you have explained that there is a lot of time/money/___ at stake for you. Lets look at the possibilities';. That used to work very well for me. It got peoples attention and then they were ready to listen to me. If it seemed like it wasn't getting anywhere sometimes I would add ';Wow, I see.... well there has to be something else I can do for you. For me, the worst possible ending to this situation would be if you left still upset. Let me call the manager/ or do whatever';





One thing I think is unacceptable, even of the angriest customer, is to act physically threatening. If you are short like me, you may have had someone try to intimidate you, getting closer to your face or emphasizing their height. Don't back down. How does this relate to your blood pressure? I might have missed the point. But! I do think if you practice some communication techniques that fit your style, you will master them, and you can be in control, and all will go better.





And when you get home remember, there are kind people in the world who love and care about you.How do you control your blood pressure when you have a customer/client yelling at you?
I have been in CS for almost the entire time I've been working.. If you need to ..step away..have someone else take over..go in the bathroom and just inhale and exhale. If that is not possible, understand that the person is not yelling at YOU personally. They are mad at the company and/or the situation. It was so rough, but how i made it through, is to never take anything personal. Stay pleasant and let them scream and yell, if you stay calm, eventually they will have to take it down a couple of notches.
hmmm well if they complain on the quality of ur work just stay calm confident and shaking or not just return with a simple: if you arent satisfied with my effort u can stick it up ur ***


stand proud regardless of ur blood pressure just keep standing tall try helping urself in those moments with confident thoughts like who are they to judge your effort when they themselves probably couldnt do half as good.. if u dont wanna take crap then dont...

You don't need to stand there taking that from anyone. If it gets too heated, explain quickly to the customer that you will be back in two minutes, then go to a quiet spot and calm down.





Then go back and deal with them accordingly, and that you can't help if their not going to be reasonable. If that doesn't work get your manager, your not paid to take abuse.
To tell you the truth i really don't know how to keep the blood pressure down. I have had people yell at me at work before and i do like you and keep a cool composure. Maybe try taking a few deep breaths and once they leave laugh about it.
first, take a deep breath, as you exhale, say to the client, ';i understand how you feel';.


then ask, ';is there anything else on your mind that i may be able to assist you with?';


let them scream and yell as much as they like. while they are doing so, imagine yourself on a tropical island, sipping cocktails on a sun lounge by the beach. you don't have to listen to them, thats the trick, you just need to pretend you are listening. works for me every time. just remember the magic words. 'i understand how you feel'.

Just ignore who ever is yelling at you and making you mad. It works for me i just think the person whoever is yelling at me is saying ';blah blah blah'; so yea :]

Mentally start counting.  The yeller will eventually notice you tuned out.  You can inform them that once they conduct themselves properly you will gladly give them your attention. 
You ask people about it on Yahoo! Answers who will most likely give you fake solutions of dumb stuff just to see if you'll try it. Then come back and yell when it doesn't work.

I work in retail so I deal with rude customers everyday I work , I try my best to ignore them but if they step out of line I tell the manager
if you smack them, maybe they'll be flustered and then you can make a run for it.
Show up for the moment slightly drunk.
